Approximately 60 biotech companies with about 600 employees are currently located over an area covering 26,000 m2. Here, work focuses on developing drugs against the most severe diseases such as cancer, Alzheimer‘s disease and various autoimmune diseases—and there are already many successes. At the IZB Freising-Weihenstephan—15 minutes from the airport—scientists are working on developments in the field of Life Sciences. An essential criterion for the success of the IZBs is the proximity to top research on the Martinsried/Grosshadern Campus and the Weihenstephan Campus. Successful companies that have emerged from the IZB include Medigene AG, Morphosys AG, Micromet GmbH (today Amgen Inc.), Octopharma GmbH, Corimmun GmbH (today Janssen-Cilag), Proteros GmbH, Coriolis Pharma Research GmbH, Rigontec GmbH (today MSD) and Exosome Diagnostics (today Bio-Techne) as well as the 4SC AG. Professional start-up management in the IZB
The Innovation and Start-up Center Biotechnology (IZB) is a daughter company of the State of Bavaria. Our aims are to support the founding of Life Sciences companies, and through leasing suitable space, contribute to the business transfer of research results. This is why young entrepreneurs and company founders from the area of Life Sciences find an optimal infrastructure to implement their product and/ or service ideas. The IZB supports its start-ups in financing, business questions, the search for cooperation partners, contact with scientific networks, participation in trade fairs, expanding lab space and marketing activities, as well as with restructuring. Flexibly designed, fully furnished laboratories (S1 standard) and office space are offered at fair prices in order to simplify the step towards self-sufficiency.
