Products/services: A key project of the FAPS chair is the Bavarian Technology Center for Electrical Drive Technology. This E|Drive Center supports medium-sized companies in the analysis and optimization of applications, production-related design and production process design of components and systems for electrical drive technology. In addition, the chair FAPS cooperates intensively with the research association Räumliche Elektronische Baugruppen (3-D MID) e.V. for further development of technologies for the integration of mechanical and electronic functions on injection-molded circuit carriers (www.3d-mid.de). Profile/competences

Core competencies

The chair FAPS was founded in 1982 as part of the newly established Erlangen Manufacturing Technology under the direction of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Klaus Feldmann. In 2009 Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jörg Franke took over the chair of FAPS. The overall objective is to integrate all sub-functions of a factory into a computer-integrated overall concept.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jörg Franke concentrates his research on innovative manufacturing processes for mechatronic products.

The development work covers the complete process chain, which begins with the packaging of electronic components, finds a focus in the assembly of electronic assemblies (printing, assembly, soldering, testing), the manufacturing processes for electrical drives (especially winding processes, connection techniques, magnet assembly), fully includes processes and equipment for final assembly and focuses on the development of contacting and laying of cable systems.
Electromobility: As an interface between industry and universities, the E|Drive Center bundles the extensive research expertise in the Nuremberg metropolitan region in the field of electric drive technology. With its three fields of work - production-related design, production technologies and application development - it extensively covers the field of electrical drive technology. The range of services extends from the construction of prototypes, the qualification of components and drives or the design of mechatronic drive systems, the detailed analysis and optimisation of individual manufacturing processes to the design of complete production lines. Further key areas of work at the FAPS chair are handling and assembly technology, planning and simulation as well as electronics production.
