Munich Biotech Cluster m4 – Personalized Medicine
The Munich Biotech Cluster m4 is a constantly growing hotbed of innovation. The Greater Munich Area counts over 20,000 persons employed by more than 270 companies in the life science sector (biotech, pharma, CRO, suppliers,..) making Munich one of the leading biotech regions in Europe.
The location benefits in particular from close interaction between academic research and the biotech industry. The region is characterized by a strong focus on “red biotechnology” – i.e. human or veterinary medicine. Munich’s profile was further sharpened by the federal funding programme “m4- Personalized Medicine and Targeted Therapies”. Within this programme, industry and academy join forces in more than 40 collaboration projects to develop personalized treatments, biomarker diagnostics and technology platforms. Infra-structural projects like a biobanking initiative and a service agency for clinical trials provide excellent framework conditions for medical research. An effective technology transfer concept is in place to identify innovations and to support start-ups.
