Profile/competences

Core competencies

The research activities of the institute of polymer technology within the mechanical engineering department of the University Erlangen-Nürnberg focus on detecting correlations between characteristics of materials, component design, moulding process and component properties. The main research are special injection moulding technics, as used for lightweight constructions and mechatronical components, compounding and processing of electro- and thermalconductive polymers as well as polymer-bonded permanent magnets and lastly additive manufacturing. The following technical centres are available:
1.) Processing equipment (injection moulding, extrusion, additive manufacturing, compounding, thermoforming, hot embossing)
2.) Analytics (thermal, rheological, physic-chemical, spectroscopical)
3.) Microscopy (dipping, transmitted light, impinging light, REM, ?CT)
4.) Mechanical testing (static, dynamic)
5.) Tribological testing (pin on disc, disc on disc, gearwheel testing, bearing bush testing)
