Products/services: The range of applications encompasses microelectronics, information techno­logy, telecommunications, audio and multimedia, digital radio, RF and microwave technology, satellite navigation, medical technology, logistics as well as industrial and machinery automation. We develop wireless communication systems with emphasis on digital broad­casting. Audio and video coding tech­niques developed at the Institute have reached international recognition due to adoption as international standards. MP3, developed by Fraunhofer IIS, is the best-known and a widely applied audio coding technique. Digital Cinema is another important research subject. Image acquisition and pattern recognition technology are key elements of automated quality assurance. Our engineers employ ultra fine focus X-ray com­puter tomography as well as high speed cameras to meet these requirements.
