Key Technologies

The online database "Key Technologies in Bavaria" comprises companies and institutions grouped by industries, which represent key technologies on account of their importance to the Bavarian economy. Most of these industries are also being promoted in the state-wide cluster campaign. At present the database consists of the following 20 key technologies: Aerospace Industries & Satellite Navigation; Automotive Industry; Biotechnology; Call and Communication Centers; Chemical Industry; Construction Industry; Electrical Engineering & Electronics; Energy Technology; Environmental Technology; Financial Services; Information and Communication Technology; Logistics; Mechanical Engineering; Mechatronics; Media; Medical Technology; Nanotechnology; New Materials; Photonics; Railway Technology. The Key Technologies are broken down into several sections to which companies can themselves assign to.

Default search

Here you can search for unstructured text, Key Techs and sub-sectors as well as state administrative provinces and districts, either separately or in combination (= automatic "and" search). Click on the "Reset search" button to cancel all search criteria. If you wish to use further search criteria, click on the "Advanced search" button.

Advanced search

Here you can search for the following criteria either separately or in combination: unstructured text, Key Techs and their sub-sectors or alternatively by economic activities classified according to the NACE system; state administrative provinces and districts; types of firms and institutions; certification; number of employees; sales range; language skills; target sectors and target markets (= automatic "and" search). Click on the "Reset search" button to cancel all search criteria.

The following search options are available in the default search and in the advanced search:

Unstructured text search

The search for unstructured text is available in the default search and advanced search. It may be combined with the other search criteria provided (= automatic "and" search). This search looks up words and parts of words in the following data fields: name of company / institution; postal/ZIP code; city; products/services; core competences; certification; target business lines; target regions; language skills. You must enter at least 3 characters in one or more search items. Several words in quotation marks are treated as a complete search string. This search function is case insensitive. You may also search for terms in German, but you should use the German search functions if you wish to receive search results in German

Key Tech / Sub-sectors

You may limit your search to one key technology or one sub-sector. In the “KeyTech” pull-down menu you may select one key technology. After marking it and clicking on the arrow to the right a further pull down menu is accessible. It contains all sub-sectors of the particular KeyTech and you can mark the required sub-sector.

State administrative province / district

You may limit your search to one state administrative province or one district. In the “State administrative province” pull-down menu you may select from all provinces in Bavaria. After marking the province and clicking on the arrow to the right a further pull-down menu is accessible. It contains the districts in the particular province and you can mark the required district.

The following search options are available only in the advanced search:

Economic activity (NACE)

You may focus your search to one of the industries classified under the NACE system of the European Union (2008). In order to do this you mark “By NACE industry” in the search field “Search type” and click on the arrow to the right. Now a text field opens in which you may enter a key word for the search in the NACE structure. In addition, a pull down-menu is accessible, in which you may select the required industry. By clicking on the arrow to the right a further pull-down menu is accessible with the sub-industries of the particular industry. In this way you may refine your search further step by step.

Companies/ Institutions

In two pull-down menus you can select whether you wish to search for companies or institutions or only for a particular type, e.g. manufacturers.

Certification

Enter a certification which you expect the companies or institutions to hold. An unstructured text search will be conducted based on this term.

Employees

Employees
Enter the maximum and minimum number of employees in the companies you are searching for. In order to search for companies with e.g. exactly 100 employees, enter this figure in both fields.

Turnover

Choose the turnover range from the pull-down menu which you expect the companies to generate.

Language skill

From the pull-down menu choose the language skill which you expect the companies to possess.

Target business line

Enter the business line which the companies should have stated. An unstructured text search will be conducted based on this term.

Target regions

Limit your search to a target market, which the companies should have stated. Choose a country from the pull-down menu.

List view

The list view shows the consecutive number, name of company or institution, postal/ZIP code, city, and products/services in English of the entries found. By clicking on the top of the column you can sort the entire list by the criteria name, postal/ZIP code or city in ascending order. A click on the name of the company opens the comprehensive profile. You may navigate between pages in the list view by clicking on the page numbers in the blue bar above the list.
All companies or institutions contained in the particular list view are displayed on a map below the list. By moving the mouse pointer to the symbols the respective company will be indicated and you may open its homepage. You may zoom into the map by clicking on the plus sign at the left border or by double-clicking on the map. In order to zoom out of the map you use the minus sign at the left border. By clicking and holding down the mouse button or with the navigation arrows in the upper left corner you can move the shown section of the map. Alternatively to the map view (“Straße”) you can also choose an aerial view (“Luftbild”) and you can turn the legend on or off (“Beschriftg.”). A particular company from the list can also be displayed in the map in a detailed view, by clicking on the wind rose symbol in the respective line of the list.

Profile

Here the complete profiles of companies and institutions are displayed. Besides the name and contact data, you also find information on contact persons, assignment to key technologies and sections, products and services, core competences, type, employees, turnover, year of foundation, certification, language skills, target sales markets and target regions. You may browse backwards and forwards through the profiles. Click on the respective links in the profile to send an E-mail to the company or to open its homepage.
On a map to the right of the profile the location of the particular company is presented in detail.

Key Technologies Maps

After clicking on the link “Larger view” below the map the separate application Key Technologies Maps opens in a new window after a few moments. By moving the mouse pointer to the symbols the respective company will be indicated. Further you may use the following functions: visit the company’s homepage, write an E-Mail program to the company, zoom into the map, display further information on the company, add the company to your favorites, plan your route to the companies address, or start the route planner with the companies address. You may zoom into the map by clicking on the plus sign at upper border or by double-clicking on the map. In order to zoom out of the map you use the minus sign at the upper border. By clicking and holding down the mouse button you can move the shown section of the map. Alternatively to the street view you can also choose an aerial view or a bird’s eye view. The bird’s eye view is available only after zooming into the map and only for selected areas.
To the left of the map you can select one or more KeyTechs, for which the respective companies shall be presented in the map. By clicking on the plus sign in front of the KeyTech a list with the sections opens and you can select one or more sections. All companies of the marked KeyTechs and sections will be presented in the map. In order to view companies which are firstly shown by a summary symbol zoom into the map for increasing detail.

Print page

All pages including the list view and company profile may be printed with the print function of your internet browser. In the application Key technologies maps you can print views by clicking on the printer symbol.

Export of data

In the list view you can select up to 100 companies for data export by clicking on the check box. The selection can be reset by clicking on the button "Clear export data”. After clicking on the button “Export data” above the list a new page opens. Here you can choose one or more required functions of the contact persons whose names shall be exported. If you do not select any data, or you chose more than 100 data entries the first 100 entries from the list view will be exported. Then you are required to accept the terms of use by selecting the respective checkbox. Finally you click on the button “Export data” and you choose whether you want to open or save the result file. The exported data (name of company/ institution, address, telephone number, E-mail, contact persons) will be provided for you in Excel format.
